My Choice
I chose Mario Sorrenti as my photographer to research. Here are some photos that I found when I started to research him.

End result
This was my finished box. I wish I had more time or used my time more wisely. Spring Break kind of threw me off on when to go to the shop and manage enough time for sanding and carving.

Band Poster
This is a band logo I made for the band called Apples for Archers. It still is being worked on but I was wondering if you had any suggestions. I used notes from Visual Communications to help form the letters with the eaten apple.

Photography Website
I stumbled on this website and felt I just had to share it. The colors and details in each of the photographs are stunning and keep me curious in exploring the portfolio further. http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/2L1J0p/www.designerterminal.com/inspiration/photography/portrait-photography-gallery-inspiration.html/
I haven't had a great deal of experience in portrait photography but after seeing this website that is all I want to take pictures of now.

Site on Blending and 3D modeling
http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/A2UmRK/cg.tutsplus.com/sessions/best-of-blender/
I found this website that shows different forms of modeling and texture to create realistic images. A couple of the links related a lot to the presentation that we had on Tuesday. They were easier to understand after having that lecture although I'm still learning in Google Sketch Up.

Another perspective photo
http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/4ITwa0/current.com/1cihu4c/ This is another website I found on perspective photography and I really enjoyed this photographed because I thought it was nicely thought out and had a realistic feel for tricking the eye.
Perspective Photographs
http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/1TEkWb/www.drweb.de/magazin/35-splendid-examples-of-forced-perspective-photography/ Today after the critique we talked about our new assignment which was perspective drawings. I googled perspective drawings and photographs and came upon this website. I wanted to get an idea of what I was looking for when Margie was explaining the project and these pictures really gave me a creative feel to go about thinking of what I could do. These go above and beyond of what we are probably going to be doing but they were fun to look at and gave our assignment on a higher scale.
Chair Designs
http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/1kiaxj/www.trendir.com/archives/003650.html/ I found this website about this new chair design and thought it was really interesting after seeing all the different chair designs of today's critique. I really like the negative space in the back of the chair. It really intrigued me how little of material is used especially after we had to use numerous sheets of cardboard to sustain our body weight.
Chair Designs
http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/94b102/www.urukia.com/switch-table-chair-ellen-ectors/ I found this website and saw these chairs that turn into tables. I thought it was interesting in the geometric and organic shapes that made up this object. I was a little curious as to why no one made something like this...but then realized the amount of work that would've been needed for an idea like this...and the amount of cardboard. It's still a neat idea though!

Artworks
The artwork from the websites kept me interested in looking at them. The negative space that they each provide makes the viewer curious as to how it is holding together or what shapes the spaces are giving. I was curious to see the shadows that Martin Puryear’s piece would create. Both artworks communicate to me the fluidity of the negative space that the material gives off. I think they do this because my eyes continue to explore the entire artwork rather than just getting the “gist” of it. The material makes me more curious as to what it looks like from other directions rather than just straight on.
The materials in each piece keep the shape interesting. In Puryear’s the wood makes parallel lines in a vertical and horizontal fashion that keeps your eyes moving up and down and examines it throughouly due to the space outlned in the middle. The curved shape in the middle contrasts to the straight flat edges of the blocks of wood.
In Kendall Buster’s project she uses material that is light and transparent. This keep me interested because of the texture the material gives from different directions when placed in different forms. The constant linear shapes gives negative spaces throughout the artwork and constantly forms geometric shapes that are easy to look at and recognize what she is trying to show the viewer.
Both artworks use geometric shapes to form larger objects. The simple shapes they each use form into a greater form that keeps our eyes moving and curious about how the shapes work with each other.

Sontag on Photography
The beginning of the article described photography as a mysterious form of art that captures a moment in time to hold forever. It told a story of two men who fought a battle simply to gain money and other fortunes but instead return to their homes to show their wives photographed postcards of all the places they saw. It also described how photographs scaled the world into an image that can fit anywhere and is seen in every day life such as newspapers, magazines, frames or tucked away in old books. The article later went on to tell how pictures are used as evidence and truth which can be used to prove something did or did not happen.
Susan Sontag goes on to describe her views on photography telling of how photography isn't about claiming some lengthy explanation of a photo but rather someone taking a picture of a subject that they enjoy. She criticizes the incoherent words of professors that explain their views on photography. However, she doesn't know much about photography but she has passion for it which is just a powerful. This article made me think about photography. The beginning paragraphs connected with me because of the explanation for taking photos and the mysterious ways of having an image forever in your hand.

Videos in Class
The first day of class we watched a video about illusions that are used in art. It is amazing how over the years people have figured out little "tricks" to fool the human eye and present something interesting. A trick that was discovered long ago and is frequently used throughout any form of design is that of a vanishing point. This allows for a depth of field and gives any art form a sense of 3-dimensial space.
Another video that we watched was "Ways of Seeing", which talked about several points. A topic that was discussed was the use of cameras. It talked about how the machine shows us what it is seeing and how it gives us different angles of objects and a single moment stopped in time forever. The camera also is able to give us the ability to make prints so famous paintings and artwork around the world can be in the palm of your hand. Another concept that was discussed was how certain things such as music or camera views can change the meaning of a painting. I found that extremely true because most pictures on the television, such as Sarah McLachlan's adopt a pet foundation, that is put with music performs a more dramatic feel. Sometimes pictures are shown with fast entertaining music to advertise a product. The use of pictures and manipulating them to form a need happens everyday and can be seen anywhere. I found the videos helpful in thinking of certain subject matters to focus on for the project. I found that they also helped in giving me ideas for certain viewpoints of pictures to add to the collage that we're working on.
