I felt as though my strongest designs were designs one, three, and nine. Design one is strong because the “c” is showing depth on a dark background which makes it stand out over the rest of the word and the entire document. The purple large band also creates a horizon line which sets up the “c” on a higher plane than the rest of the word because the “onquer” is underneath the entire purple band thus making the word depict its meaning stronger.
Design three is strong because the “c” is again dominating the word and the coloring of the letters plays an impact on this design. The large “c” is a light blue to represent a positive feel and the rest of the word has the light blue covering up most of the positive space of the word as it dominates the dark red on the bottom of the letters. The dark red is also supposed to symbolize a negative feel which is being conquered by the light blue.
Even though design nine is in black and white I feel it is strong due to the stark positive and negative area it covers. The large “c” is near the top and the rest of the document is black with “onquer” in the black space. This extreme contrast gives the simple definition of conquering as the letter is overcoming the black space with the white letters moving upward towards the white space as well.
My individual compositions suggest the meaning of my word by the placement of the word in the layout. In all my designs I placed the word in the top half of the layout. This showed in the simplest form the meaning of the word. I used color and size between the “c” and “onquer” to show the act of conquering. I also used contrasting colors in the letters all together over the background to show the meaning of the word. I also spread out the letters on a straight line when spelling “onquer” because it had a stronger meaning of conquering when the letters where taking up a larger space on the layout.
All the compositions together worked as a whole to give the complete definition of the word conquer because they were all designed with the word near the top of the layouts. They also all had contrasting colors to symbolize positive overcome or negative. The designs have different ways of conquering the layout such as light color covering up dark color in the positive space of the letter, light letters being spaced out over the dark background, and having the word over a horizon line in the layout.
